Seit der Videorevolution im Netz haben mir nur wenige Dinge Gänsehaut bereitet oder mich dazu veranlasst, ein Video weiterzuleiten, ohne dass ich einen Gefallen schuldig war. Das Einzige war Danny MacAskills Video für Inspired Bicycles. Letzten Mittwoch erst habe ich es wieder „geyoutubed“, da es mich wohl am meisten bewegt hat, eine für mich perfekte Symbiose von bewegten Bildern und Musik. 17 573 900 Klicks bis dato…

Nun, zwei Tage später, beim Boarden meines Fliegers nach Edinburgh, steht ein von oben bis unten Red Bull gebrandeter, rothaariger junger Mann in der Schlange hinter mir. Wer? Dreimal dürft Ihr raten: Danny! Auf die Bitte hin, mir etwas seiner kostbaren Zeit für ein ITV nach Ankunft in Edinburgh zu schenken, nickt er fast schüchtern und stimmt mit einem Grinsen zu.

Wir sitzen in einem, ich würde mal sagen, nicht allzu komfortablen Nero Cafe in der Ankunftshalle Edinburghs, wir versuchen mein Handy so einzustellen, dass es unser Gespräch mitschneidet und ich keine Fingerkrämpfe beim Mitschreiben bekomme. Es hilft nicht, dass wir identisch altmodische Handys besitzen (in der Zeit des iPhones) und uns rein gar nicht damit auskennen. Naja, Moleskine ausgepackt, Fragen vorbereitet und los.

Danny, does it happen to you a lot to get chatted up by random girls asking for „Interviews”?

Ohhh, all time, all the time (lacht), well, never ever actually. My interests were more in sheeps than girls coming from a lil Island Isle of Skye, where the main fashion is velcro walleys [Gummistiefel mit Fellfutter].

Since we are travelling, what would be the most embarrassing thing I would find in your suitcase?

Nothing really, just sweaty clothes I reckon, some vitamins and minerals, my training program I got from the physio and maybe my “man-kini”, the one I only use at weekends. [lacht]

[lacht]: Doing what you are doing, what would you actually call a nice holiday?

I don’t know really, going to the Alps to ride my Mountainbike I reckon or going home to my dad cutting the peats.

Talking business, at what moment did you realize you became an inspiration for 1000s, no millions?

Never thought about it that way. I think I just got lucky. Within the first 24 hours on the internet we had thousands of viewers and it right kicked off. We always filmed for fun, with no expectations and the last seven months the media interest never broke up. Also I got the easy part, my flat mate [Dave Sowerby] did all the filming and editing. This year, if I get better after my injury, I will get all this opportunities, to film with him, get all this travelling… I will make the most out of it.

For the video you used the Band of Horses song "The Funeral", what do you feel when you hear it on the radio?

My flat mate again chose it, I did not see any of the video until it was finished, not an image, not a cut. When I hear it on the radio, say in a car I would change the channel, I get really embarrassed. Though Band of Horses are playing in the UK sometime soon, I would really like to go and see them, even meet the band.

Right, what do you think about Social Media, especially Facebook?

Facebook is not my kinda thing and should be banned. [lacht] My friends always take photos when we are out and try to make me look stupid when they put the pics online. They make me look bad.
